Slat Sizes Of Wood Blinds

The slats are the main component for traditional wooden blinds. The slats are thin sheets of wood which keep light from entering a room. Wires or straps are used to connect each slat. These wires or straps are connected to a rotor, located on the mounting device of the blind. These rotors turn or lift the slats and dictate the distances or spaces between them. The spaces control the amount of sunlight passing through your room.

The slats of wooden blinds come in various widths, which alter the overall appearance of the blind. The wider the slats the fewer would be their number in an entire blind.

One Inch

Wooden blinds with one-inch slats would cost from $75 to $500. They are the cheapest types of wooden blinds in the market, nevertheless they serve their purpose of shading your windows or making them attractive spots in your home.  The problem, however, is that blinds with one-inch slats provide larger stacking space when they are raised due to the large number of slats they have. In addition, wood blinds with such size of slats do not give ample viewing space of what is happening outside of your home.

Two Inches

Wood blinds with two-inch slats would cost from $70 to $480, depending on the overall size of the blinds. The wider slats provide the blind with a distinct look called the “shutter effect.” Wood blinds with two-inch slats also provide a moderate field of view since the gap between each slat is larger than a wood blind with one-inch slats.

2 ½ Inches

Wood blinds made of 2 ½-inch wooden slats are worth about $130 to $800. These are the widest types of slats used for horizontal wood blinds. They offer better fields of view than the previous two due to the wide gaps between each slat. Wood blinds with 2 ½-inch slats are composed of fewer slats. They can effectively block light from entering a room because of their large frame.

3 1/2 Inches

Wooden blinds with 3 ½-inch slats are worth about $200 to $900. These slats are used for vertical wooden blinds. They offer the best field of view since due to the wide space between their slats. The wider frames of these slats allow them to prevent the most amount of sunlight from entering a room.

What slat size should you choose

Choose blinds with wooden slats that that can provide enough coverage for your type of window. Blinds with one-inch slats are the narrowest and can be used for smaller windows. Wood blinds with two-inch slats can be used for windows of moderate size. Finally, wood blinds with 2 ½-inch and 3 ½-inch slats should be used in larger and wider windows to prevent large amounts of light from passing through your room.
